Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God’s people on earth.  Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.  Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.  Amen.

 Holy God, holy and mighty , holy and immortal, have mercy on us.

Since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

Homily Given on Feast of the Most Holy and Undivided Trinity

In the name of the Father and + the Son and the Holy Spirit! Amen.
Many make the sign of the cross when we are inside of the church, but we are troubled to do this in other places. We are shy of our faith; we are afraid that others will say we are such backward, vintage people since we still believe in God.
At the same time, the sign of the cross is the simplest confession of the Christian faith. A person may even be mute, but as soon as he (or she) makes the sign of the cross, everyone around him will understand that he is a Christian. He is a Christian, he was baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit and belongs to the Church that confesses faith in the Holy Trinity.
In our Church, we have a deaf and mute Deacon serving in a parish in eastern Siberia. In our country, it is tough to exist if you are deaf. The majority of the deaf cannot even read and write because they have no opportunities to study. Such people are usually considered “of second sort” in our country.
And you know, even in the Church at different times of her history, there was a different attitude toward deaf people. For example, Saint Augustine wrote that deaf people cannot be saved. Because “faith comes from hearing.”
“Faith comes from hearing,” I’m sure you recall, it is what Saint Paul wrote in the tenth chapter of Romans.
So by ordaining a deaf person into the deaconate, the Church proves that Saint Augustine was wrong in his opinion. Deaf people can hear, and mute people can speak, but they use a different language from the rest of us to communicate; they use sign language. It is a very difficult language, not easy to learn. But I repeat that when even a deaf person makes the sign of the cross, we understand that he (or she) is a Christian.
And of course, deaf people are of the same sort as everyone else. Or, I say in a better way: there are no sorts at all. And surely the deaf can be saved because God “wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth” [1 Tim. 2:4].
In the Church, there are no people “of first sort” or “of second sort.” Here we all are loved by God regardless of education, nationality or health condition.

And all Christians “worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity,” this is a quotation from Athanasian Creed. This Creed has existed for more than fifteen centuries. This is a quite long Creed. It consists of two parts. The first part is that God is triune, and the second part is that Christ is God and Man. The Church has always had this confession; she continues to believe in the same way.
Why? Has the truth still not changed? The answer is simple: the truth has not changed.
“We worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity.” And please pay attention to the fact that we not only “believe,” but we “worship.” That means we do not just intellectually recognize the doctrine, not just abstractly agree with the Trinitarianism of God, but we worship Him. That is, we obey Him, believe as He tells us, and gather in His Church; we try to live according to His will, we are His servants, and we are God’s property.
And you know, after all, it immediately becomes clear why people reject the Christian faith. This reason, since ancient times, has been called so: disobedience.
From the time of Adam and Eve, humans have been disobedient; they wanted to “become gods” [Gen. 3:5], that is, to put themselves in the centre of their life, even in the centre of the universe, to take the God’s place, or at least to “equalize” with God.
We still carry this original sin from generation to generation, like an ancient curse that condemns us to death and dooms us to eternal punishment. And if it were not for the second person of the Holy Trinity – Jesus Christ, Who came to redeem us, we would certainly perish; we would go the direct road to hell.

The world has changed a lot since the days of Adam and Eve. It invented new “gods” and new ideas with which humans diligently replaced God. Some idols are pretty “similar” to God, and some “creeds” are quite “Trinitarian.” For example, the famous communist slogan “liberty, equality, fraternity” sounds pretty trinitarian. And many more things will lead people away from God and His Church. But the Church will continue to exist to save people. Nothing and nobody can destroy the Church.

This is the Church that has always believed in the Triune God, Who revealed Himself to us as the Creator of Heaven and earth, Who created everything but did not leave His creation. And more than that: He loved us so much that He gave His only begotten Son for our salvation.
The Church believes in the Lord Jesus Christ, God’s eternal Son, Who became one of us to take away our sins; He suffered for us, instead of us, and died and then resurrected to bring all the faithful to Heaven.
The Church believes in the Holy Spirit, Helper and Comforter, Who was sent to clean us through the water of baptism, and to forgive our sins through the voice of priests, and to nourish us with the precious holy supper of the Eucharist so that we do not get tired on the way to the God’s Kingdom.
And all of them — the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit — are not three Gods, but one God. This is the faith of the Church, the faith that the Church has received from God and passed on to us. The Church has always believed this way, and she has always preserved and defended this faith.

Martin Luther advised us to begin each of our days in this way, “In the morning when you get up, make the sign of the holy cross and say: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit! Amen.”
So, whenever we make the sign of the cross we confess our Trinitarian faith. We tell ourselves and the whole universe that our baptism was not in vain for us and that we still stand in this faith. You know that so many people are baptized and then run away. They are lost somewhere and do not want to be found. So it is vital that we are here.
We did not run away, we are here in the church. Maybe there are not so many of us, but no matter how many we are, we are not alone: today, all over the world, Christians gather in their churches to “worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity.”
Don’t be afraid to be Christian, don’t hide your faith. I wish you a blessed feast of the Holy Trinity, dear fathers and brothers and sisters!

Ele Khalid, do you here, in the presence of God, and of this congregation, renew the solemn promise and vow that was made in your name at your Baptism; accepting and confirming the same for yourself, and acknowledging yourself bound to believe and to do all those things, which your Godfathers and Godmothers then undertook for you?

And he shall answer clearly:

Bishop: Our help is in the Name of the Lord;

All: Who has made heaven and earth.

Bishop: Blessed be the Name of the Lord;

All:  From this time forth, for evermore.

Bishop:  O Lord, hear our prayer.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, who has graciously regenerated this your servant by Water and the Holy Spirit, and has given unto him forgiveness of all his sins: Strengthen him, we beseech you, O Lord, with the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, and daily increase in him your abundant gifts of grace; the spirit of wisdom and understanding; the spirit of counsel and inner strength; the spirit of knowledge and true godliness; and fill him, O Lord, with the spirit of your holy fear, now and for ever. Amen.

Then Ele Khalid kneels before the Bishop, who shall lay his hand upon the head of Ele Khalid, saying,

DEFEND, O Lord, this your Child with your heavenly grace, that he may continue yours for ever; and daily grow in your Holy Spirit, more and more, until he comes into your everlasting kingdom. Amen.

Then shall the Bishop say,

Bishop: The Lord be with you.

All:  And also with you.

Let us pray.

ALMIGHTY and eternal God, who makes us both to will and to do those things that be good and acceptable unto your divine Majesty; We make our humble prayers unto you for this your servant Ele Khalid, upon whom (after the example of your holy Apostles) we have now laid our hands, to assure him (by this sign) of your favour and goodness towards him. Let your fatherly hand, we beseech you, ever be over him; let your Holy Spirit ever be with him; and so lead him in the knowledge and obedience of your Word, that in the end he may obtain everlasting life; through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Then the Bishop shall bless him, saying:

THE blessing of God Almighty, the + Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, be upon you, Ele Khalid, and remain with you, always. Amen.

Blessed are you, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have these gifts to share. Accept and use our offerings for your glory and the service of your kingdom.

We do not presume to come to your table, merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your manifold and great mercies.  We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table, but you are the same Lord whose nature is always to have mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that we may evermore dwell in him and he in us.  Amen.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give thanks and praise.

Father, we give you thanks and praise through your beloved Son Jesus Christ, your living Word, through whom you have created all things; who was sent by you in your great goodness to be our Saviour.

By the power of the Holy Spirit he took flesh; as your Son, born of the blessed Virgin, he lived on earth and went about among us; he opened wide his arms for us on the cross; he put an end to death by dying for us; and revealed the resurrection by rising to new life; so he fulfilled your will and won for you a holy people.

Proper Preface

Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we proclaim your great and glorious name, for ever praising you and saying:

Holy, holy, holy Lord God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.   Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.  Hosanna in the highest.

Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness; grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit, and according to your holy will, these gifts of bread and wine may be to us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ; who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take, eat; this is my body  which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.

In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he gave it to them, saying: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant,

which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it,

in remembrance of me.

Great is the mystery of faith:

Christ has died:

Christ is risen:

Christ will come again.

And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross, his perfect sacrifice, made once for the sins of the whole world; rejoicing in his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension, and looking for his coming in glory, we celebrate this memorial of our redemption.

As we offer you this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, we bring before you this bread and this cup and we thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. Send the Holy Spirit on your people and gather into one in your kingdom all who share this one bread and one cup, so that we, in the company of [N and] all the saints, may praise and glorify you for ever, through Jesus Christ our Lord; by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever.

Amen.

Let us pray with confidence to the Father, as our Saviour has taught us:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.

Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread.

Happy are those who are called to his supper.

Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed.

Let us pray.

Father of all we give you thanks and praise that when we were still far off you met us in your Son and brought us home. Dying and living, he declared your love, gave us grace, and opened the gate of glory. May we who share Christ’s body live his risen life; we who drink his cup bring life to others; we whom the Spirit lights give light to the world. 

Keep us in this hope that we have grasped; so we and all your children shall be free, and the whole earth live to praise your name.

Father, we offer ourselves to you as a living sacrifice through Jesus Christ our Lord. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory.

The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord: and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit , be amongst you and remain with you always.

Amen.
